Sloan Smart Faucets

Sloan Optima Faucets with Smart Technology

Introducing an update from Sloan that takes a flagship Sloan product – Optima faucets, and catapults it into the future with wireless connectivity, amongst other upgrades. This futuristic innovation improves the installation, service, and maintenance of Optima faucet fixtures. In this article, we delve into how new smart Optima faucets make facility managers jobs easier and more efficient, and improve a facility’s customer experience with better performing faucets. We also give you insight into Sloan’s app that connects to the faucets, enabling facility maintenance personnel to collect data and manage faucets remotely.

Optima Faucet Upgrades

The upgrades Sloan has made to it’s Optima faucet line are exceptional. Not only are the faucets now smart fixtures that connect to an app, but they also now come with standard mounting hardware, a longer sensor cable, and a quick connect spout hose. All of these updates reduce installation time for your faucet by 50% or more.

The new control box design is also simplified, with fewer cords and hoses, the addition of mounting slots (so no mounting plates and hardware are needed), and a newly patented dual-inlet filter fitting to filter and mix hot and cold water at once.

The updates above are valuable improvements as is, but Sloan didn’t stop there. The biggest upgrade Optima faucets received is making them smart faucets. New Optima faucets now contain technology that enables information from the faucets to be connected to a remote program. The program is an app created by Sloan that can be downloaded on any smartphone or tablet, which enables users to view information about the faucets remotely. This innovation brings faucets into the exciting and connected world of IoT* (Internet of Things).

*What is IoT, exactly? According to IoT Agenda, the Internet of Things, also known as IoT,  is “a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.”

What is a ‘Smart Faucet’ and how does it work?

A smart faucet is a faucet that connects to a system that can be accessed remotely. Essentially, new Optima faucets contain sensors that pair to the Sloan Connect® App. Facility managers then access this app through their smartphone or tablet. In Sloan Connect, they can collect data from the device, program the fixture, be alerted of malfunctions, and even adjust settings and set faucet timeouts remotely, all without any time spent below the deck of the faucet, a place no facility manager wants to spend very much time.

Some examples of data you can collect from the faucet using the app include the following:

  • How many times it has been activated
  • The current battery strength
  • When it was last activated
  • Water usage amounts
  • Estimated service schedules
  • Generate and share diagnostic reports with Sloan
  • Save notes about a site or faucet
  • Identify your faucet and access technical data

Information gathered through the app enables facility managers to draw very helpful conclusions. They can see when a unit will need a new battery or when a faucet will likely require new parts that need to be replaced over time. They can even deduce when there might be a unit that isn’t working by reading the data. Was there a busy time in a multi-faucet restroom with one unit that was not used during that time? That unit might be working properly. Is there a unit with very high water usage? That might indicate a leaky faucet. There is a ton of actionable information that can be collected through the app that makes servicing Optima faucets smarter.
